Temiskaming Hospital is a 79-bed community hospital located in Temiskaming Shores, Ontario. The Pharmacy department supports a full range of services including general medicine, surgery, obstetrics/Level1B nursery, pediatrics, critical care, emergency department, outpatient oncology, ambulatory care, and complex continuing care. We are seeking a motivated Clinical Pharmacy and Day Medicine Department Manager to join our team!

 

Principal responsibilities include:

  • Overall day to day management of human, fiscal and environmental resources that are required to provide pharmacy and Day Medicine department services to our patients in a safe, effective and efficient manner
  • Influence and motivate staff through transformational leadership and encourage effective relationships among the interprofessional teams that aligns with TH strategic vision and hospital values.
  • Manage processes that enable the team to deliver high quality service that meets customer needs and expectations, in particular, overseeing automation processes that facilitate the needs
  • Develop delivery of care systems and processes that enhances patient focused care, professional autonomy, accountability and collaborative practice by acting as a role model, coaching and mentoring staff as needed to demonstrate a personal commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Data and information analysis of quality, utilization and outcome indicators and development/implementing innovative action plans
  • Participates and provides leadership in Pharmacy and Hospital Accreditations
  • Promotes and develops a leading edge, safe, effective and efficient medication management system and takes responsibility for medication management quality improvement initiatives and risk reduction strategies in conjunction with other managers
  • Develop, implement and review evidence-based treatment protocols/guidelines
  • Oversee procurement of medications and management of medication backorders and drug shortages
  • Investigates and addresses issues identified through medication-related safety incident reports
  • Participates in quality improvement and workload measurement activities by conducting audits, tracking indicators and workload statistics and benchmarking.
  • Adheres to Occupational Health & Safety responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act e.g. Hazardous compounding
  • Performs workplace inspections and investigations, remedies issues and provides training/information to workers
  • Supports and integrates ambulatory services in the Day Medicine department, inclusive of oncology services and interfacility relationships
  • Development and oversight into antimicrobial stewardship
  • NAPRA, Ontario College of Pharmacists Standards and Accreditation Canada Standards

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Registered as a Part A Pharmacist with the Ontario College of Pharmacists
  • Baccalaureate of Science in Pharmacy from a recognized University
  • Minimum of 3-5 years Management / leadership experience involving multidisciplinary teams
  • Advanced health related degree or completion of a Pharmacy Residency program is considered an asset
  • Bilingualism (French / English) will be considered an asset

    • Patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all.

    • Strong commitment to development of Pharmacy professionals in an acute care environment and strong commitment to professional practice / quality standards

 

Desired knowledge/experience:

  • Knowledge of:
    • Health system technologies, distribution systems and their application,
    • Aseptic technique & extemporaneous preparation of pharmaceuticals,
    • Safe handling, acquisition, distribution & disposal of hazardous drug products
    • Utilization of credible medical information resources
    • Current evidence-based best practice pharmacotherapeutics and pharmacokinetics and their application to patient-centered pharmaceutical care
    • Disease states, appropriate dosages, delivery techniques, formulations, routes of administration of all medications, interpretation of laboratory and clinical parameters and their application to patient assessment and monitoring
    • Development of effective business plans and project proposals.
