Performance and Accountability

  • The purpose of Temiskaming Hospital’s energy conservation and demand management (CDM) plan and policies is to promote good stewardship of our environment and community resources. In keeping with our core values of efficiency, concern for the environment, and financial responsibility, Temiskaming Hospital’s energy conservation and demand management program will reduce overall energy consumption, operating costs, and greenhouse gas emissions. It will also enable us to provide compassionate service to a greater number of persons in the community.

  • Quality Improvement is an ongoing priority that helps us continually find new and better ways of providing services, delivering care, improving the patient experience and achieve even better clinical outcomes.

In June 2010, the Ontario government passed The Excellent Care for All Act (ECFAA). This legislation helps support hospitals to further improve the quality and safety of care they provide for our community. The legislation requires Ontario hospitals to create and make public an annual Quality Improvement Plan (QIP).

Temiskaming Hospital’s Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) continues to build upon our commitment to delivering safe, quality patient-centered care and is a meaningful way to clearly articulate our accountability to our community, patients and staff. With this plan, we are able to document and review our current performance in a variety of areas, identify areas of improvement and monitor our performance.

Our Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) is made up of two parts:

    1. A document that provides a brief overview of our QIP, highlighting and listing our hospital’s top priorities for the year. To view, click here.
      Not applicable for 2021-22

    2. A spreadsheet that includes our improvement targets and initiatives. The spreadsheet includes a core set of indicators used by all hospitals across the province.

  • Temiskaming Hospital is proud to announce they have been awarded “Accredited with Exemplary Standing”, the highest possible ranking by Accreditation Canada for the second time in a row.

This ranking is awarded to organizations who demonstrate exceptional performance and quality in achieving the requirements of the accreditation program.

This achievement demonstrates the commitment of the Temiskaming Hospital staff to continuous improvement in delivering the best possible care and service to our patients and their families within our community.

Accreditation Canada provides external peer reviews to national and international healthcare organizations using evidence based standards and a strict peer review process.

A four-day on-site survey was conducted June 6-9, 2016 as part of an ongoing process focusing on quality improvement. Accreditation Canada surveyors evaluated the organization's performance against Accreditation Canada's evidence based standards of excellence.

The process reviewed Temiskaming Hospital's performance on 1893 applicable standards across eight dimensions of quality. 99.6% of these criteria and 100% of all Required Organizational Practice (ROP) criteria were met, as identified within the on-site results, which is an outstanding achievement on the part of all of our staff and professional staff.

In combination with the hospital’s accreditation achievement, in June, 2016, the hospital’s lab received a 98% highly acclaimed rating from the Ontario Laboratory Accreditation (OLA).  OLA assesses the ability of laboratories to perform the scope of tests for which we are licensed and provides formal recognition of this competence through Accreditation.

The Board of Directors recognizes the hard work and commitment of staff, physicians and volunteers in the achievement of this distinguished accolade.
