Highest Accreditation Standing
Temiskaming Hospital has achieved accreditation with exemplary standing under the Qmentum accreditation program by Accreditation Canada. Temiskaming Hospital underwent five days of auditing back on November 7-11, 2021. The award received by Temiskaming Hospital is the highest accreditation rating possible for a Canadian hospital and establishes the quality and safety for healthcare on a national scale. Qmentum uses evidence-informed standards developed by the Health Standards Organization and endorsed by the Standards Council of Canada.
“This is a remarkable accomplishment in a normal year; however, it is even more remarkable given the pandemic and events taking place during the time of the auditor’s visit,” said Temiskaming Hospital President & CEO Mike Baker. He continued, “The audit took place during the time where we had the highest number of COVID-19 patients in-hospital including one in our special care unit, coupled with the highest occupancy rate in our history at 119 per cent. We were also dealing with other pressures including finding additional patient beds and working on the ONE digital record project. I want to commend our staff on this designation and for their continued unwavering commitment to quality, patient-centered care and services at Temiskaming Hospital.”
The hospital was audited on 2,035 quality dimensions and met 99.6 per cent of those standards. Within those standards, there are 227 required organizational practices, practices that must be met to ensure the highest level of care for patients. Temiskaming Hospital met 100 per cent of these practices.
“Preparing for accreditation is a multi-year process, and every one of our employees, including our healthcare staff, administrative staff, professional staff and board of directors, played a role in this outcome,” said Baker. “This rating assures our community that they are receiving the best possible care right here in south Timiskaming.”
“Receiving an exemplary rating provided by Accreditation Canada indicates the commitment of our team to providing safe, high-quality health services on a national scale,” said Vice-President of Patient Services/Chief Nursing Executive Angie Manners. She continued, “The Accreditation Canada program is so valuable because it provides a roadmap for Temiskaming Hospital to move forward and work towards achieving the best possible outcomes for staff, patients and their families.”
Temiskaming Hospital received the same exemplary standing during its last audit in 2016.
