We are currently looking for an Accounting Manager to join our team of healthcare professionals!

Reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Services & Chief Financial Officer, the Accounting Manager is responsible for month end activities such as revenue recognition, ministry and LHIN reporting and variance analysis, budgeting, forecasting and assisting the Vice President, Corporate Services & Chief Financial Officer (“finance leadership”) on other ad-hoc projects. The Accounting Manager is a member of the leadership team at Temiskaming Hospital and plays a pivotal role in the stewardship of financial resources at the hospital.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Provides direction and leadership to the accounting function.
  • Guide, motivate, monitor and supervise staff, develop standards of performance, evaluate performance and make recommendations on disciplinary action if required.
  • Engage in and foster professional development of staff and provide opportunities for learning within budgeted resources.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures, assesses and manages the associated risk, and monitors the ability to meet regulatory compliance.
  • Uses professional judgment to recommend to the finance leadership, accounting treatments, determine accounting estimates and make appropriate accounting provisions in the financial records of the hospital.
  • Prepares the financial results and indicators, including operating results, financial position, budget to actual variances, forecasts, benchmarking and statistical indicators.
  • Analyses and reconciles various account ledgers and ensures the accuracy of statistical and financial ledgers.
  • Prepares and timely submits various Ministry of Health reports, including, MIS Trial Balance Submission, Budgets, and annual reconciliation reports and prepares the annual financial statements for audit and management purposes.
  • Working with the finance leadership, to establish the annual operating plan, capital plan, and any special projects budgets as required.
  • Recommends improved internal control procedures where areas of weakness are discovered.
  • Provides detailed research and analysis of financial and cash flow options, collection, utilization and disbursement of funds; reports on the impact of those options and makes sound recommendations for change where applicable.
  • Is compliant with and ensures compliance with hospital policies, procedures and training requirements for maintaining a healthy and safe workplace.
  • Perform other duties as required.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

  • Holds a degree in Business Administration or in the Accounting Field.
  • Possesses or is working towards an accounting designation (CPA) is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Consideration will be given to candidates that have had a minimum of 5 years working in a progressive accounting position in a health care environment

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Management Information System (MIS) Guideline, and Ontario Healthcare Reporting System.
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Meditech and Microsoft Office software, e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
  • Excellent financial analysis, problem solving, and forecasting skills and the ability to formulate recommendations.
  • Knowledge of hospital reporting, statistical data and key performance indicators.
  • Ability to manage routine correspondence, multiple tasks/projects, diversified workload and rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines.
  • Ability to coach, advise and teach others.
  • Ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.

  • Successful criminal reference check is required for vulnerable sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Demonstrated professionalism in dealing with confidential and sensitive issues.
