Update: January 21, 2019
Health Sciences North (HSN) in Sudbury was hit with a virus in its Information Technology system early Wednesday morning, January 16, 2019. The Temiskaming Hospital, along with almost all hospitals in North Eastern Ontario, receive its Information Technology systems and services through a partnership with HSN.
As of this morning, almost all of Temiskaming Hospital’s patient care systems have been restored and patients will no longer experience delays at the hospital as a result of this situation. The backlog of patient information has been prioritized and continues to be entered into the system this week. Temiskaming Hospital was able to continue all clinical services during the disruption, only experiencing delays as a result of the manual record keeping that was required.
“Our occupancy rate during this situation ranged from 91.5% to 105.1%.” said Hospital CEO Mike Baker. “This put extra pressure on our team and they came through with flying colours!”
The Hospital staff would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding while we worked through this difficult situation.

Health Sciences North (HSN) in Sudbury was hit with a virus in its Information Technology system early Wednesday morning, January 16, 2019. While the virus has been isolated, all systems have been taken off line as a precautionary measure. A full system assessment is underway and once completed, systems will be restored.
The Temiskaming Hospital, along with almost all hospitals in North Eastern Ontario, receive its Information Technology systems and services through a partnership with HSN. As a result, the Temiskaming Hospital’s systems have been taken off line as well. The hospital activated its System Downtime Protocol, which means that all services and procedures are proceeding in manual mode at this point in time. Patients will experience delays in all areas of the hospital, including Emergency, Diagnostic Imaging and Laboratory.
“The situation is magnified because we are experiencing 100% occupancy today.” said Hospital CEO Mike Baker. “Extra staff have been brought in where possible to ensure patients continue to be handled in a safe and timely manner. Our team is rising to the challenge once again.”
The staff appreciate your patience and understanding while working through this difficult situation.
