The Temiskaming Hospital Foundation is launching its 2nd annual Radiothon on Saturday, February 13th, 2016 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on 104.5 CJTT FM Radio. Donations will assist in the purchase of an Ultrasound Machine, at a purchase price of $150,000, which is vital to providing quality care close to home. The replacement of diagnostic equipment is not covered under the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care funding making community fundraising an absolute necessity.
Our surrounding region will benefit greatly from a new ultrasound as it is considered a safe, non-invasive and radiation free means of diagnostic care. It is an extremely useful tool during a woman’s pregnancy and has been used over the past 40 years. It is also used to monitor breast changes which may or may not be found in a mammogram. Ultrasound is also a safe way to monitor aneurysms of the aorta as well as monitoring blood flow or abnormalities of the liver, kidney, gallbladder, spleen and pancreas. It is also used in emergency situations such as vehicular accidents where internal organs may become damaged and internal bleeding is occurring. Ultrasound is a preferred diagnostic tool in young children and young adults as there is no exposure to radiation or contrast dyes.
